3G multi-mode, multi-band RF transceiver

EDN Europe, 19 Jun 2009

ST-Ericsson has unveiled its 3G multi-mode, multi-band Aero4228 RF transceiver. The product is an HSPA/EDGE transceiver that eliminates the need of expensive external filter components to complete the RF subsystem in mobile handset designs. The transceiver delivers a combination of performance and integration. It effectively removes both 3G TX and RX SAW (surface acoustic wave) filters and incorporates all LNAs (low noise amplifiers) on-chip. Using the transceiver, 3G mobile phone designers can diminish the total BOM (bill of materials) and reduce the cellular radio footprint in their handset designs. The product improves performance, reduces costs and shrinks system size. The product is manufactured using CMOS technology. The transceiver integrates sensitive components, Tx/Rx VCOs, loop filters, tuning inductors and varactors integrated in CMOS silicon. The integrated power management enables low power consumption. This product includes licensed 3G technology from ACP Advanced Circuit Pursuit.
