Antenna-switch modules

EDN Europe, 01 Mar 2010

Skyworks Solutions has introduced a family of ASMs (antennaswitch modules) for 2/3/4G-handset and data-card platforms using both GaAs (gallium arsenide) and SOI (silicon on insulator) technologies. Skyworks products address the three primary switching functions: main antenna, diversity, and band/mode. Examples from the series include the SKY13362, an SP10T (single-pole ten-throw) ASM with an integrated CMOS (complementary- metal-oxide-semiconductor) decoder and dual low-pass harmonic filters. The 3.0x3.8-mm switch has five 3/4G TRx (transmit-receive) ports, three Rx (receive) ports, and two GSM transmit-signal low-pass harmonic filters. The SKY14152 is a lowcost, SP8T (single-pole eight-throw) ASM for use in multimode embedded data cards and comprises an SP8T switch, GSM transmit-signal low-pass harmonic filters, and an Rx SAW filter. The newly introduced switch, ASM and FEM devices rely on pseudomorphic pHEMT (high-electron-mobilitytransistor), SOI, IPD (integratedpassive- device), and WL-CSP (waferlevel chip-scale package) SAW technologies.
