Broadband gain blocks deliver high linearity
EDN Europe, 01 Dec 2010
Avago Technologies introduces two high-linearity gain block amplifiers. The AVT-55689 and AVT-54689 gain blocks feature low current consumption and robust electrostatic discharge protection, and are housed in an industry standard SOT-89 package. The new devices operate in frequency bands from DC to 6000MHz. Their ease of use and extended broadband performance make them suitable for cellular and WiMAX wireless base stations, satellite and cable TV set-top boxes, military equipment and a variety of other wireless applications operating in this broad frequency range. The gain blocks leverage Indium Gallium Phosphate Hetero-junction Bipolar Transistor process to achieve high reliability, temperature stability and performance consistency. The devices are each internally matched to 50Ohms, eliminating the need for additional radio frequency matching components. The cost-efficient devices’ broadband gain is also suitable for cellular infrastructure designs that require the same driver amplifier or gain block for different frequencies.
At the typical operating condition of 5V and 83mA, the AVT-55689 device delivers performance of 17.2dB Gain, 33.0dBm output third order intercept point, 19.4dBm output power at 1dB gain compression (P1dB) and 4.4dB noise figure at 2000MHz. At the typical operating condition of 5V and 60mA, the AVT-54689 delivers performance of 17.4dB gain, 30.0dBm OIP3, 17.7dBm P1dB and 4.0dB noise figure at 2000MHz. Other features of the amplifiers include input and output fully matched to 50Ohms; built-in temperature compensated internal bias circuitry; uniformity in product specifications to minimise yield impact; and RoHS-compliant and MSL-1 rated package.
