Clock generators featuring low phase jitter

Cypress Semiconductor has introduced the FleXO family of programmable high-performance clock generators. The new clocks deliver low phase jitter as low as 0.6ps - typical, across the 12kHz to 20MHz range, meeting the requirements of high-speed serial interface standards such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Fibre Channel, PCI Express and SATA (serial advanced technology attachment). The flexible clocks can be instantly programmed in the factory or field to any frequency up to 650MHz. The programmability of the FleXO family speeds development and simplifies testing for improved manufacturing quality. The clock generators employ programmable phase locked-loop technology, which can be used in integer or Frac-N mode, to synthesise and tightly control the frequency of low noise clock signals using a standard low-cost crystal input. These solutions provide an alternative to SAW oscillators and overtone crystal oscillators. The family is suitable for switches and routers, 3G wireless base stations, FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) hubs, enterprise hard-disk drives, test equipment and professional video equipment.
