KickStart formula applied to latest Freescale MCUs
EDN Europe, 26 Mar 2008
IAR Systems has introduced a version of its KickStart Kit for Freescale’s ColdFire microcontrollers, including an updated version of its Embedded Workbench for ColdFire, now at v. 1.20, supplie din the kit in a limited edition format. The kit includes an MCF52223-SK evaluation board, IAR J-Link for ColdFire BDM26 debug probe, and a 20-state evaluation edition of IAR visualSTATE. The workbench provides a C++ development environment for building and debugging embedded applications using ColdFire V1, V2 and V3 cores. Features now include a new data model for near relative addressing, additional C-SPY debugger support, flash loader drivers, and support for the most recent ColdFire devices. The KickStart edition has a size limitation on compiled code of 16kB for a V1 core and 32kB for a V2 or V3 core. A new baseline edition has also been introduced: this has a size limitation on compiled code of 64kB for a V1 core and 128kB for a V2 core. The development board has a 2x16 character LCD screen, 16 LEDs, 4 buttons (GPIO) and PWM to drive a buzzer; and ADC provides a potentiometer input. External connections include: a JTAG-BDM26 connector; I2C routed to header pins; 3 UART connectors (DB9); SPI routed to header pins; USB connector (OTG/host jumper selectable) and a SD/MMC socket. DC power is supplied to the board either via an external power connector or through IAR J-Link, selectable using a jumper. An analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) provides potentiometer input.
