Digital multimeters enable automotive industry applications

EDN Europe, 22 Oct 2010

Agilent Technologies has introduced two DMMs (digital multimeters) to complement its family of PXI products. These 6.5digit PXI DMMs offer enhanced measurement speeds, accuracy and stability, claims the company. Test engineers in aerospace, defence, electronic manufacturing and automotive industries have an alternative when designing their mission-critical PXI test systems. The M9182A 6.5 digit DMM and M9183A 6.5 digit DMM measure common parameters such as DCV, DCI, ACV, ACI, two- and four-wire resistance and temperature. Each offers 30ppm basic DCV and 300ppm basic ACV, one-year accuracies and inputs up to 300V. The DMMs deliver 4,500 readings-per-second and 20,000 readings-per-second, respectively. These reading speeds translate into high test system throughput and low cost of test, claims the company. The DMMs are capable of measurements such as capacitance. This may reduce the need for instruments in a test rack, conserving rack space and budget, states the company. Both DMMs are compatible with PXI, PXI Hybrid, and compactPCI instrument mainframes, including the company’s PXI mainframe products. Each DMM has a suite of software to enable system integration regardless of the software environment end-users have on their PCs. An intuitive software front panel enables DMM set-up, measurement and system troubleshooting without programming. The DMMs include IVI-COM, IVI-C, and LabVIEW G-drivers that are compatible with C++, Visual Basic, NI LabVIEW, and many other PC software environments.
