Kontron has announced the embedded Box-PC Microspace MPC-p2, a compact system for graphic intensive applications. The fanless system is based on the accelerated processing units of the AMD embedded G-series, which along with a 64bit CPU also integrate a programmable graphics unit. The Box-PC measures 130x99mm and supports the latest 3D graphics libraries such as OpenGL 3.2 and DirectX 11 and provides hardware acceleration for Flash-based applications. The integrated unified video decoder assists the processor when resolution graphics of 1080i/pixel have to be displayed. According to the company, OEMs can create graphic-oriented applications with a total user experience in areas such as digital signage, media playback, gaming, and PoS and PoL applications. With the help of GSM and Wi-Fi, the Box-PC is also suitable for wireless networking in decentralised installations, claims the company. For applications that use the computing power of the graphics unit for data processing, the system supports DirectCompute and OpenCL 1.1. The single-core AMD T44R processor with 1.2GHz which is featured in the company’s Box-PC also integrates an AMD Radeon HD6250 graphic unit and DDR3 memory controller. With up to 4Gbyte DDR3 RAM, the company’s Box-PC provides enough resources to accelerate the memory-intensive applications, says the company.

For data storage, the Box-PC provides a 500Gbyte hard disk drive or a 40Gbyte SSD for applications that require high shock and vibration resistance. Analogue or digital monitors with a resolution of up to 1900x1200pixels can be connected via the digital visual interface-I on the front. Six USB 2.0 and up to four serial interfaces of RS232 and transistor-transistor logic via D-subminiature connectors allow for direct connection of a wide range of application-specific peripherals, claims the company. Two GbE interfaces allow for direct integration into network structures without the need for additional extension cards, says the company.
