Flash storage module offers 1Tbyte of NAND flash memory
EDN Europe, 29 Jun 2011
The 3U VPX FSM (flash storage module) from Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems is designed for use in space, weight and power constrained military applications. The VPX3-1TB module delivers 1Tbyte of single-level cell NAND flash memory and can be configured as just a bunch of disks or redundant array of independent disks. To ensure the security of data, the FSM provides an NIST-certified 256bit AES data encryption capability. The FSM’s NAND flash memory is organised in four banks of 256Gbit each in a 1inch pitch 3U VPX module. The four banks of flash can be configured to appear to the host processor as four separate SATA (serial advanced technology attachment) drives or as a single SATA drive with hardware RAID0 support. This conduction-cooled module is available in military ruggedisation configurations, including Levels 100 and 200. The FSM is interoperable with host storage software under Windows, Linux, or VxWorks.
