Multiport vector network analysers

EDN Europe, 07 Oct 2009

Anritsu has introduced two low-end frequency models to its MN469xB VectorStar four-port test sets. These instruments are multiport VNA (vector network analyser) solutions and measure down to 70kHz. The series combines DC coverage and the dynamic range time domain capability of a VNA, and measures signal integrity. The MN4694B covers up to 40GHz while the MN4697B has a frequency range up to 70GHz. Both include bias tees for active measurement applications. The devices provide four-port capabilities using an external test set driven by the base VNA. This flexibility removes the test set for uncompromised two-port measurements or for use with multiple VNAs. This four-port architecture is suitable for single-ended devices, balanced passive devices and balanced linear active devices. The MS4640A has a dynamic range of 103dB at 67GHz and a measurement speed of 20us/point for S-parameter measurements. The MS4640A has a receiver with a +10dBm 0.1dB compression level at 70GHz. With Precision AutoCal for 70kHz to 40GHz or 70GHz calibration, residual directivity of 42dB can be achieved at 70GHz and up to 50dB at 20GHz. The measurement speed of 20us/point is achieved without any restrictions.
