New 16bit MCU achieves 0.71 DMIPS/MHz in Dhrystone v2.1 benchmarks

EDN Europe, 26 Jun 2009

Cyan has launched the eCOG16E01 microcontroller. This 16bit microcontroller incorporates the company’s CyCore CPU. In Dhrystone v2.1 benchmarks, the eCOG16E01 has achieved 0.71 DMIPS/MHz. The eCOG16E01 is a high performance 16bit microcontroller with good code density that typically uses 45% less program memory. This enables the microcontroller to be cost-effective, as it requires half as much memory for the same functionality, and is still large enough for protocol stacks, RF nodes and industrial sensor applications. The eCOG16E01 has been specifically designed for low power. The use of cache memory minimises power hungry flash accesses and enables high CPU clock speeds, thus increasing CPU performance and reducing power. The microcontroller features 50MHz maximum CPU clock frequency and 0.65mW/MHz power consumption.
