Distributor Farnell element14 has worked with Embest on the design of a a touch-screen LCD with multi-functional embedded hardware; the EDM6070AR-01 is a fully-integrated Embedded Display Module (EDM) that integrates an ARM-based single board computer (SBC) with a 7-in. LCD and touch-screen assembly, making a ready-to-deploy solution that enables embedded engineers to include touch-screen functionality in their products.

The multi-function embedded EDM is based on the ARM9 AT91SAM9X35 industrial processor from Atmel, and is an all-in-one solution suited to a variety of embedded control HMI (human machine interface) applications including industrial control terminals, intelligent instruments, medical products, network terminals as well as data acquisition and analysis. The module has a plate with display, connectors and place for the Mini6935 module with ARM microcontroller.

The module is supplied with a Smart-Home demo application with a smart-LED controller allowing the user to set independent light levels in each room, smart-climate controller allowing the user to control temperature and humidity throughout the house and smart-multimedia allowing the user to play streamed audio files into any room and manage surveillance cameras.

The unit is ready for product integration and software development, and it can become a finished product helping to reduce time-to-market and development costs.

Features include:

  1. Atmel ARM926EJ-S processor;
  2. 128 MB DDR2 SDRAM;
  3. 256 MB NAND Flash;
  4. 4 MB Data Flash;
  5. 24-bit TFT LCD module, 7-in. (800 x 480);
  6. 4-wire resistive touch-screen;
  7. SD card interface;
  8. Power supply: +12V@1.25A;
  9. CD-ROM with sample applications.

The EDM6070AR-01 costs £102.55 with the 7-in. LCD. The CPU module without the LCD is also available for £36.75 (Mini6935).
