Connector systems supports 100 Gbps systems

Based on its ERmet ZDHD connectors which support data rates of up to 25 Gbps, ERNI now offers a high-density, high-speed connector system that can support data rates of up to 100 Gbps in four, 25 Gbps channels. In addition to the existing 6-pair version ERNI now also offers compact 4-pair male and female parts of the ERmet ZDHD.

This connector system can handle signal paths that conform to the IEEE 802.3bj standard. Besides higher data rates, telecom/datacom vendors demand higher contact density with a lot of differential signal contacts /inch. The ERmet ZDHD system fulfills these needs, offering 14 contact rows/inch with six, or four, differential signal pairs/row. In total this is respectively 84 or 56 differential signal pairs/inch.

To reach this high signal density the pitch between the rows was reduced to only 1.8 mm while the pitch between the differential pairs within a row was reduced to 3.6 mm. A prerequisite of constructing a system of this size reduction is a downsized pressfit technology with 0.46 mm diameter hole. These miniaturised vias enable an optimised crosstalk behaviour. Robust alignment guides on male side walls support a reliable mating.
