Fast turnaround sourcing of configurable power supplies from distribution

Distributor Arrow Electronics and Artesyn Embedded Technologies have created a route to sourcing configurable AC-DC power supplies that promises flexible, fast turnaround for low- to medium-volume requirements. At its Swindon, UK, site Arrow has replicated Artesyn’s own configuration line and testing processes.

Arrow can therefore offer configured power supplies from Artesyn’s MP, iMP and low profile (1U) MicroMP (uMP) ranges. These are power supply series that are not (in general) user-configurable but use a modular/configurable architecture to enable the manufacturer to quickly produce units from a very large number of possible variants. Small batches of up to ten units can be produced in as little as 48 hours, Arrow says. In addition to the configuration line, Arrow has installed equipment for surge and EMI testing as well as an environmental chamber that operates from -70 to +100C. These all utilise Artesyn’s test procedures and parameters.

Arrow’s vice president of sales for EMEA, Eddie Gallacher, comments, “Arrow is effectively providing an extension of Artesyn’s own manufacturing capabilities, offering the same range, quality and peace of mind.” Holger Schierenbeck, Technology & Supplier Business Manager Power Solutions for Arrow EMEA adds, “The launch of this configurable power supply service is another step on Arrow’s path to being the leading power product distributor in Europe. We have invested in plant, component stock and, most importantly, trained staff in order to deliver a class-leading service for power solutions.”
