Federal-Mogul takes Beru ignition products into aftermarket portfolio

Following Federal-Mogul’s acquisition of the Beru spark plug business, the company has entered into an additional agreement with BorgWarner Beru Systems GmbH to serve as the exclusive global independent aftermarket distributor of the remaining Beru ignition products. Federal-Mogul will also become the exclusive licensee of the Beru brand name for sale of ignition products in the aftermarket.

As a result of this agreement, Federal-Mogul will sell and distribute in the automotive aftermarket Beru glow plugs, flame glow plugs, glow controllers, connectors and components, ignition wires, sensors and coils. The Beru glow plug product line is recognized as a market leading diesel ignition technology, particularly in Europe. BorgWarner will continue to develop, manufacture and sell these products directly to customers in the original equipment assembly and original equipment service markets. According to Federal Mogul Vehicle Componets Segment CEO Michael Broderick, the Beru product line is complementary to Federal Mogul's long-standing Champion product line of spark plugs which the company sells since 1907.

To facilitate the Champion and Beru ignition product catalog integration, Federal-Mogul will consolidate its aftermarket ignition products distribution for the EMEA region into a distribution center in Ludwigsburg, Germany. The consolidated distribution center will provide improved operations and customer service efficiency by fulfilling orders from a single location.

Federal-Mogul has completed the takeover of Beru in October, 2012. The company today operates eight manufacturing sites and three technical centers within its ignition product line at facilities in the U.S., Europe, China, India and Mexico.
