VIA Technologies has launched a quad core Pico-ITX embedded ARM board for advanced industrial, energy management and in-vehicle applications.

The rugged VIA VAB-820 Pico-ITX board uses a 1GHz quad core Freescale i.MX6Quad ARM Cortex-A9 and supports a wide operating temperature range from -20 to 70 degrees Celsius in an ultra-low TDP power envelope of only 7W and is backed with up to seven years longevity support.
Leveraging VIA’s hardware design expertise, the VIA VAB-820 delivers the highest I/O integration with superb multimedia features, including three independent, fully-integrated GPUs, in an ultra-compact yet highly-flexible platform for the latest embedded devices. Featuring capture-in support, the VIA VAB-820 is also ideal for surveillance and building access systems and features optional PoE (power over Ethernet) for seamless network integration.
The VIA VAB-820 is available with board support packages (BSPs) for Android and Ubuntu operating systems, enabling customers to take advantage of VIA’s worldwide embedded software development expertise to quickly create customized designs for a fast time to market approach.
“The VIA VAB-820 delivers our most powerful ARM–based platform for customers to leverage in developing innovative new connected devices,” said Epan Wu, Head of the VIA Embedded Platform Division at VIA Technologies. “As a leader in hardware and software support, VIA provides our customers the fastest path to market with the availability of starter kits, customization support, or offering complete systems for different applications.”
Based on the ultra compact Pico-ITX form factor, measuring 10 cm x 7.2 cm, the VIA VAB-820 includes dual independent display support and three independent, fully integrated GPUS for 3D/2D graphics acceleration and full HD playback support. Dual coastline I/O includes one HDMI port, two USB 2.0 ports, one MicroSD slot and one Gigabit Ethernet port. On-board features include up to 64GB eMMC Flash memory, 1GB DDR3 SDRAM, one USB 2.0 host port, one USB OTG port, one Mini PCI-e, two COM port pin headers, one CANbus, one dual channel LVDS connector, one S-video pin header and eight GPIO pin headers.
