Fujitsu to distribute Ambiq’s sub-threshold, low power MCUs & RTCs

July 27, 2016 // By Graham Prophet
Fujitsu Electronics Europe (FEEU) has become the exclusive distributor of Ambiq Micro products in Europe; Fujitsu will extend its distribution offering with Ambiq’s microcontrollers and real-time-clocks. Ambiq bases its product line on logic that uses sub-threshold switching, for very-low-power operation.

The move follows Fujitsu’s change in direction announced earlier in 2016, see “ Fujitsu Electronics Europe re-invents itself as a distributor ”. FEEU’s portfolio includes other low-power components such as Ferroelectric Random Access Memory (FRAM), a product line from Fujitsu itself (see “ Quad SPI FRAM at 4Mbit capacity ”) and also foundry and packaging services that support near-threshold and sub-threshold applications for power-efficient and compact solutions.

“If you look at FEEU’s product portfolio from a power efficiency standpoint, you will recognize that Ambiq Micro Low Power MCUs and Low Power RTCs are an ideal fit... with its wide range of low-power components like FRAM and services like the near- and sub-threshold foundry and design services,” says Dr. Klaus-Peter Dyck, Senior Product Marketing Engineer at Fujitsu Electronics Europe.
