Gyroscope plus accelerometer offers 6-axis measurement in a 3x3x0.8mm chip

InvenSense has released the MPU-6521 MEMS SoC, that it positions as the smallest, lowest profile, and lowest power 6-axis motion tracking solution available. The slim profile MPU-6521, aimed at portable devices and motion-based remote controls, draws only 6.1mW, which is 60% less power than competing solutions, says the manufacturer.

To enable the precision required for pedestrian navigation and wearable sensor applications, the MPU-6521's integrated gyroscope achieves low noise performance of 0.01 dps/√Hz. The MEMS SoC includes the Digital Motion Processor (DMP) with integrated MotionFusion, run-time calibration, and system-level power optimization features. The MPU-6521 will be sampled to select customers in Q2'13.
