High-endurance industrial-grade 16 GB and 32 GB SATA SSDs

Greenliant Systems, specialist in energy-efficient, secure and reliable solid state storage products, has begun volume production of 16 GB and 32 GB industrial grade SATA NANDrive embedded solid state drives (SSDs) using 1-bit-per-cell (SLC) NAND flash memory.

The GLS85LS1016P and GLS85LS1032P devices are suitable for long-life products that need high-endurance storage for user data and applications in a small, ball grid array (BGA) form factor. They expand Greenliant’s industrial grade SATA NANDrive portfolio to offer a range of capacities—2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB—of robust, embedded SSDs. Based on Greenliant’s internally-developed NAND controller, NANDrive has error correction code (ECC) capabilities with advanced wear-leveling algorithms and bad block management to significantly extend the life of the product. NANDrive includes power interrupt data protection and enhanced security features to safeguard mission-critical data.

“To address applications with long lifecycles, SLC SATA NANDrive will be available up to 10 years through Greenliant’s Long-Term Availability (LTA) program,” said Chen Tsai, senior vice president, manufacturing operations, Greenliant Systems.

Industrial grade SATA NANDrive operates from -40 to +85C and is tested to MIL-STD-883E to withstand harsh conditions. All SATA NANDrive devices have the same footprint in a 14 x 24 x 1.95 mm, 145-ball package, with 1-mm ball pitch for increased long-term reliability.

NANDrive manages all NAND flash complexities and allows embedded system designers to integrate mass data storage solutions into their designs without having to make any firmware changes. Because NANDrive complies with ATA and eMMC interface protocols supported by all standard embedded operating systems, designers no longer face costly, time-consuming host software revalidation cycles. To further ease system integration and simplify inventory management, NANDrive solves the compatibility and obsolescence issues of pairing a NAND controller with new NAND flash devices. As an integrated multi-chip package solution, NANDrive eliminates the need for long qualification cycles when there is a change of NAND flash technology; customers need only qualify the NANDrive as a mass storage subsystem.
