Infineon gains security certification for IoT apps, with OPTIGA product

Infineon Technologies has announced that its OPTIGA TPM (Trusted Platform Module), based on the TPM 2.0 standard, is the first such device to comply with internationally recognised computer security requirements, with the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) having certified the device according to Common Criteria EAL4+.

The Common Criteria certification is an independent third party process that helps system and device manufacturers select trustworthy solutions: with Common Criteria certification, Infineon says it is first in the industry to support the requirement that Windows 10 personal computers be equipped with TPM 2.0. This most recent version of the internationally recognised TPM standard (ISO/IEC 11889:2015) also addresses the security requirements of a growing number of IoT devices. Trusted computing based on TPM root of trust hardware provides protection for such devices as gateways and routers used in smart homes, mobile devices as well as connected industrial and automotive systems. Infineon cites design wins for OPTIGA TPM devices in Google’s OnHub Wi-Fi router, Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 tablet and other platforms.

Especially as the need for hardware-based security is expanding from traditional computing to include new IoT market segments.”
