Linear opto sensor for code reading, edge detection

ams has posted details of the TSL1401CCS linear array light sensor. The device comprises an array of 128 photofiodes on a pixel pitch of 63.5 microns, equating to 400 dpi resolution, with a integrated data-hold function.

The photodiodes are integrated with associated charge amplifier circuitry; the pixel data-hold function provides simultaneous-integration start and stop times for all pixels. The pixels measure 63.5 μm (H) by 55.5 μm (W) with 63.5 μm centre-to-centre spacing and 8μm spacing between pixels. Operation is simplified by internal control logic that requires only a serial-input (SI) signal and a clock. With high linearity and uniformity pixel-to-pixel the device offers rail-rail signalling on its outputs. Use it for high resolution edge detection, high resolution OCR, or bar code reading; the design supports grey scale scanning and accurate positioning, using the full available ADC input range.
