Micrel launches one of the world's smallest push-button-reset ICs

Micrel has introduced one of the world’s smallest push-button-reset ICs in the industry. Delivered in 0.8 mm x 1.2 mm Chip Scale Packaging, the MIC2782 features dual push-button reset inputs and extended setup periods of 6 to 12 s.

Intended for safely generating hard system resets, the dual-inputs and long setup periods protect against accidental system resets in smart phones, tablets, eBooks, set top boxes, personal navigation devices and toys.   

The MIC2782 has been designed for consumer product manufacturers seeking to virtually eliminate the possibility of accidental hard resets.  The dual-input MIC2782 offers a flexible solution in less than 1 square millimeter while limiting the supply current to 2.2 mA which makes the device suitable for space-constrained, power-sensitive applications such as smart phones and tablets.

The MIC2782 generates a reset pulse for a reset timeout period of 0.5 s, 1 s or 2 s, after both push-button inputs have been held low for a selectable setup period of 6 s, 8 s, 10 s, or 12 s. The device also features a second output that immediately asserts if both push-button inputs have been asserted, and deactivates if one or both inputs are released.  The MIC2782 provides 65 kOhm pull-up resistors on the push-button inputs.   

Designers can tie both push-button inputs together if they desire a single push-button input.   Outputs are open-drain and can sink 0.5 mA of current from a 1.5 V supply. The MIC2782 operates over the 1.5 V to 5.5 V supply voltage range, consuming just 2.2 m A of supply current at 3.3 V. The device is available in a space saving, 6-bump, 0.4 mm pitch, 0.8 mm x 1.2 mm x 0.525 mm Wafer Level Chip Scale Package, and operates over the -40 to +85°C temperature range.
