MLCCs tolerate pulse discharge, supply high current peaks at 200C

Kemet has added high temperature and high voltage capabilities in the form of Pulse Discharge Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors. This 200C series delivers reliable short-duration pulse generation in harsh environments typically associated with munitions and down-hole detonation circuitry.

These pulse discharge capacitors offer higher and more uniform breakdown voltage performance than competitive dielectric solutions resulting in increased reliability in customer field applications. When dealing with large and expensive detonation systems, increased reliability can quickly result in significant cost savings. Kemet’s high reliability base metal electrode dielectric system is 100% Pb-free, RoHS compliant and REACH-compliant without exemptions.


With discharge voltages of up to 3,500V and capacitances up to 150 nF, Pulse Discharge capacitors are suitable for firing-set circuitry utilizing exploding foil initiators or slapper detonators. They provide, the company says, unparalleled energy delivery to support the growing needs for accuracy and efficiency in tools for the gas and oil Industry as well as other extreme applications that require rapid energy discharge.
