Online calculator helps design tracking to wireless-node-antennae

Maker of miniature antennae and antenna modules, Antenova, is offering designers who may have limited RF expertise, a ‘helping hand’ in the form of a free transmission line calculator tool and other resources, to aid them in achieving a “right first time” wireless design, in terms of tracking and interconnect carrying RF signals.

Antenova (Hatfield, UK) offers a series of tools and resources to help product designers successfully integrate antennas onto new PCB designs, with the aim of making antenna integration simpler and faster for all designers. Specifically, a free Antenna Transmission Line Calculator tool calculates a Grounded Coplanar Wave Guide trace and optimises antenna performance, based on the key parameters of a PCB design. Antenova’s CEO, Colin Newman explains: “A growing number of manufacturers are creating designs for the Internet of Things and need to integrate antennas into devices which have not been connected until now, however the factors affecting antenna performance are not always well understood. We want to help minimize these challenges for our customers. We are providing resources to explain the fundamentals of antenna integration, to assist them with the process of ‘designing-in’ the antenna. We also provide in-depth engineering support for architecture and Gerber (PCB layout) reviews, and passive and active OTE testing, using our anechoic chambers and test equipment.”


There is also a series of papers containing facts about antenna performance and design tips, to help antenna selection and PCB design decisions, such as determining distances from other surfaces and ground plane sizes, as well as videos covering the issues around antenna design and implementation.
