Synchronous buck regulator with 3V to 36V input range and internal compensation

Intersil's ISL85415 is a 500mA synchronous buck regulator featuring a wide input voltage range, integrated synchronous FETs and internal compensation.

New generations of communication, industrial and consumer systems require switching regulators to accommodate a wide range of input voltages and the ISL85415 meets that need supporting from 3V to 36V capability. An extended output voltage range of 0.6V to 95% of Vin also enables pulse-frequency modulation (PFM), a mode widely used in portable applications to improve efficiency at light loads. The ISL85415 integrates both high-side and low-side NMOS FETs, eliminating the need for external FETs and diodes. Designers can also select external compensation if required. Light load efficiency mode maximises performance in low load conditions; fixed 500 kHz switching of 80 µA suits the part to for battery-powered applications; and online design/layout files are available. In a 4 x 3 mm DFN package, prices start at $1.45 (1,000). An evaluation kit (ISL85415EVAL1Z) and low-cost demo board (ISL85415DEMO1Z) are priced at $72,00 and $20.00 respectively, and there is simulation capability within the Intersil iSim design simulation tool.
