A USB soldering iron for your field-repair toolkit

Premier Farnell has announced it will stock the first USB powered soldering iron, able to make and remake fine-pitch SMT joints, and supplied by MegaPower.

The soldering iron, which is designed for quick repairs in the field and the lab for fine pitch SMT components, is powered by the USB port of a PC or laptop or alternatively with a 9v battery. The iron achieves 480°C in 20 seconds and has a power consumption of 5W. It has a bright white LED light to illuminate the working area and comes with a protective cap to return it to your toolkit after use. The iron costs £9.90, or equivalent.
