With its capability to carry higher powers than the conventional 12V supply without increased currents, the 48V supply is particularly suited for actuator applications such as power steering as well as for coolant pumps or electric turbo chargers. Particularly interesting is the 48V system for hybrid drives: It quadruples the recuperation potential, the capability to recover brake energy. This electric energy of up to 12 kW then can be used for boosting or soaring purposes.
Test system manufacturer Kratzer Automation (Unterschleissheim, Germany) supports the development of batteries and other components of such 48V system through offering a new version of its vehicle energy system that is modified for the higher voltage. This highly dynamic DC control unit can be used to simulate batteries or to examine batteries in the low-voltage segment (as opposed to most BEV or HEV drivetrain batteries, 48V is still in the low-voltage segment). With these capabilities, the system enables engineers to test the behaviour of components or systems under reproducible conditions. The system claims very high dynamics and control accuracy.
The system will be introduced to the public at the upcoming Automotive Testing Expo (June 16 through June 18) in Stuttgart (Germany). At the same opportunity, Kratzer will also showcase the latest versions of its test automation solutions PAtools TX and testXplorer Suite. PAtools TX enables efficient control of test procedures at multiple different test stands and generating reliable measurement results in real-time. The testXplore suite comprises tools enabling simple, safe organisation of test data in the test field. These software solutions optimise the entire process chain of a verification batch.
