Wired switching regulator for non-PCB locations

Developed on the R-78 switching regulator family, the R-78W is a wired version of the R-78 mainly intended for use in applications which use few or no printed circuit boards.

For example; in LED lighting solutions, a constant voltage for a fan can be generated by connecting the switching regulator in parallel with the LED driver. Additionally, in prototyping and in many areas of electrical engineering, wired regulators can be useful.

Standard output voltages of 5V, 9V, or 12V with an output current of up to 500 mA are available. This module offers a wide input voltage range of 6.5V to 32V and is also short-circuit-protected (shut-down with automatic restart). It is safe to use in industry standard operating temperatures with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. To further protect this regulator, a protection diode is integrated into the module in order to prevent damage from reverse currents when switching off.

At 17.5 x 11.5 x 8.5 mm, the R-78W is also suitable for use in portable and battery-operated devices. Due to its high efficiency of up to 96%, no heat sink is required – saving valuable board space and lowering mounting costs.
