Optimised scalable PCB connector for electronic applications
EDN Europe, 26 Dec 2011
TE Connectivity has introduced a one-piece compressive BtB (board-to-board) connector, which enables connecting to a locally gold-plated secondary board by compression of the contacts. The BtB connector is made of high temperature thermal plastic and copper alloy and is usable in a number of positions, height and pitch, says the company. It features dimples on the contact area and preloaded contacts which are protected from damage due to accidental contact lifting. The 0.08mm co-planarity over all solder tails reduces solder paste thickness, allowing for good accuracy, says the company. The BtB connectors are packaged in embossed tape to allow for automatic pick and place operations. The company claims that with the sleek design, scalability and optimisation for automatic production, the BtB connector connects the main PCB board with secondary PCB boards such as keypads, making it suitable for mobile devices, cameras, and handheld GPS.
