Precision power analyser facilitates transformer testing

EDN Europe, 03 Nov 2009

The new Yokogawa WT3000T is a precision power analyser specifically targeted at the needs of the power transformer industry. Based on the company’s WT3000 instrument, the new instrument combines better accuracy and long-term stability with the ability to carry out measurements at low power factors. The instrument also has accredited calibration via VSL, which assures that the integrated transformer measurement system meets the requirements of the IEC60076-8 standard covering power transformer applications. At the standard commercial AC frequencies in the range 45 to 66Hz, the instrument offers an accuracy of better than 0.6% at a power factor of 0.01 (at 100V and 1A). It also provides 6-digit resolution through the use of 32bit RISC processing and high-quality 16bit analogue/digital converters. The instrument’s accuracy is also indispensable for additional measurements on capacitors, line filter coils or other power-factor correction circuitry used in the power grid. The instrument provides direct readout of corrected power under small load conditions according to the formulas in the IEC and ANSI/IEEE standards. The large (8.4inch) colour LCD screen makes measurements easy to read.
