With its unique “link failure alert” function at both its optical and electrical network ends, the advanced converter can completely replace the fiber converter of a Network Management System (NMS) and thus greatly reduce system costs. GAO Tek Inc.’s MA830AS intelligent fast Ethernet fiber converter conducts mutual conversion between 10Base-T/100Base-TX twisted pair electrical signals and 100Base-FX optical signals, and extends the transmission distance of a network from 100m over copper wires to 120km. This fiber converter supports transmission in dual-fiber multi-mode, dual-fiber single-mode and single-fiber single-mode fibers. It uses two network transmission technologies, those being the storing and forwarding mode of the data link layer and the straight-through mode of the physical layer, to implement data transmission in optical and electrical networks.
