Serial EEPROM with single I/O Bus

3-pin devices range up to 16 kbit

EDN Europe, 09 Jun 2008

Microchip has introduced a series of EEPROM devices with a single I/O bus interface based on its UNI/O memory-device protocol. The 11XX010, 11XX020, 11XX040, 11XX080 and 11XX160 are single-I/O EEPROM devices that can support data rates from 10 to 100 kHz; they are the only 1-, 2-, 4-, 8- and 16-kbit EEPROMs available in a three-pin SOT-23 package. They also include status registers; software write protection for ¼, ½ or full array; noise filtering; and robust ESD protection for the highest reliability. The UNI/O bus needs only one I/O pin for communication between the EEPROM device and the microcontroller. UNI/O memory devices are available in eight-pin packages with pin-outs that overlay any standard I2C or SPI EEPROM socket, simplifying evaluation. This means that you can use existing hardware with the available UNI/O software drivers for a quick test. The UNI/O memory devices operate with the new MPLAB Starter Kit for Serial Memory Products ($79.98), the MPLAB PM3 Universal Device Programmer ($895) and software drivers. The 11LCXX0 versions operate from 2.5 to 5.5V, and the 11AAXX0 versions operate from 1.8 to 5.5V.
