Server processors for high-end embedded systems

AMD has launched the Opteron 6200 and 4200 series embedded processors. These processors are designed for high-end embedded systems such as storage, telecomms and networking infrastructure. The company’s Opteron 6200 series embedded processor is a 16-core x86 embedded processor, delivering a combination of performance, scalability and efficiency for embedded servers, networking, and storage systems, according to the company. These scalable applications benefit from the modular design that features up to 33% more cores and up to 35% high performance in a small silicon footprint than the company's current products, claims the company. The company’s Opteron 4200 series embedded processor is a low power server processor operates at less than 5W per core.
