13th July 2007 - Analog Devices’ SRD Design Studio is a design system for short range device (SRD) wireless link design and simulation that is available at no charge on ADI's web site: it assists users in evaluating, designing, and troubleshooting short range radio communications devices using the company’s ADF70xx family of SRD transmitters and transceivers. ADI designed those for use in automatic meter reading, industrial automation, security, home automation, remote controls and other low-power wireless network and telemetry applications. The tool allows designers to view multiple parameters simultaneously, in both the time and frequency domains, to enable rapid prototype development and design optimisation without the use of multiple spreadsheets and iterative lab work. The software tool provides designers with FCC, ETSI and ARIB-compliant design templates. It allows designers to choose from three main simulations, including frequency domain, transient analysis and spectrum analyser. By observing the behaviour of the wireless link within these parameters, designers obtain a real-time representation of the SRD frequency, sync detection, power consumption and radio link analysis. Utilizing the spectrum analyser, users can view modifications in frequency domain and compare for different modulation options, data rates, loop filters and other criteria. Worksheets include: a design wizard, a Link Budget range estimator, a frequency worksheet, a transmitter spectrum analyser, a design aid for antenna and filter optimisation, a tool for packet formatting to see the effect of packet structure on battery life and packet error rate: plus sync detection and power sonsumpion design guides. ADI's SRD Design Studio is available for downloading at www.analog.com/srddesign.
