Silver box reference design complies with 80 PLUS platinum standard
EDN Europe, 26 Apr 2011
Infineon Technologies has developed a silver box reference design that is based on the latest generation of three ICs. The IFX90ATX300W reference design also meets 80 PLUS Platinum, a high energy efficiency standard. The design contains three components and sets high-standards for energy efficiency requirements in PC and server power supplies, claims the company. The ICE3PCS01G continuous-conduction mode-power-factor-control IC provides high efficiency for the power range of approximately 150 to 500W of PC power supplies. The company’s ICE2HS01G driver IC optimises the efficiency of half bridge converters with synchronous rectification by optimising the interplay between half bridge driver operation and synchronous rectification. This prevents unnecessary switching losses. The ICE2QR2280Z CoolSET current mode controller with digital frequency reduction minimises the switching losses in the auxiliary supply by taking the form of a fly back converter.
