Software platform and resource package for MSP430 microcontrollers

EDN Europe, 26 Dec 2011

Texas Instruments has introduced the MSP430Ware software and resource package. The software offers an intuitive GUI (graphical user interface) where the microcontroller design resources can be accessed and filtered by device, tool or software library. The software organises and presents existing software tools and resources such as the MSP430 driver library. The driver library helps configure, enable and use MSP430F5xx and MSP430F6xx microcontroller peripherals through an easy-to-understand API (application programming interface) and simple function calls, claims the company. The package includes project templates for Grace 1.1, a version of the Grace Software platform, which enables and configures MSP430 Value Line and MSP430F2xx microcontroller peripherals. Additionally, it includes the MSP430 USB Developer’s Package with all necessary APIs and examples to begin USB development. The software features a collection of all MSP430 microcontroller development resources delivered through code composer studio IDE’s resource explorer, advanced GUI framework, code examples for microcontrollers, GUI-based peripheral configuration tools, RF and USB software resources for a seamless learning and development environment, automatic web updates, says the company. The software is also available as a standalone tool with resources to support other IDEs such as IAR embedded workbench, a tool chain, and MSPGCC for MSP430 microcontrollers.
