Touch sensing on 8-bit PIC micros

Microchip bundles starter pack for touch control in demo kit format

EDN Europe, 27 Mar 2008

Microchip calls its touch sensing offering for PIC microcontrollers mTouch; its capabilities are demonstrated on the PICDEM Touch Sense 1 demonstration board. This provides an introduction to the various controls you can implement, on an evaluation board that comes with full supporting materials; these include serial analyser software, a diagnostic tool and a software development kit. The underlying technology is capacitive sensing; the demonstration board has rotary direction pad, keys and sliders, and you can control their operation via a graphical user interface. To assist with incorporating the controls into a design, the package includes libraries and source code. The demonstration board costs just under €100.
