Two-stage CMOS low noise amplifier

EDN Europe, 10 Dec 2009

The new XC2404 two-stage LNA (low noise amplifier) from Torex has been developed using a 0.13m CMOS process, which results in a low power consumption figure of 12mW (Fixed Bias mode). The device’s noise figure is a 0.94dB at 1.6GHz making it suitable for use with noise sensitive GPS applications. The device’s gain is a high 26.5dB. The device’s operating voltage range is 1.14 to 1.26V (1.2V typical) when operating in Fixed Bias mode but for applications that have higher power supply rails such as 1.8 or 2.85V, the device can also be used in a Self Bias mode by attaching an external Rbias resistor on the input side to give added flexibility. The device also offers easy output matching to 50W. The device is available in a low profile USP8A01 package measuring 1.5x1.5x0.6mm.
